May 10 - Lisa's Musings (on mowing in 50-something degree weather) and Every Day Life

There is just something wrong, wrong, wrong with heading out to mow the lawn wearing multiple layers of clothing.

Sure, the sun was shining, and it was an otherwise lovely Monday.

For anything else but mowing.

I'm sorry, it's just not right to hop on the lawn tractor with a short-sleeved shirt, covered by a light pullover, a vest and long pants.

This is not the way it's supposed to me.

Mowing the yard is my guilt-free tanning time -- in shorts and a tank top while swishing away bugs and looking out for snakes and other little ground-dwelling critters.

It's a happy time.

It's many hours away from the phone and the laptop.

To commune with nature.

To think.

To contemplate life.

To bounce around while trying not to run over snakes, or into trees.

So, being bundled up took care of two major obstacles -- the snakes and the bloodshed.

Apparently, snakes don't like 50's much either and were hiding wherever snakes hide.

And, because I was wearing so many layers, I got through the mow not only in record time, but also without any scratches, scrapes or bruises.

So, I guess that part's good.

But shivering while mowing is just plain wrong.

I zoomed through the sections in the shade, which serve as a welcome respite from the sun and heat -- on a normal mowing day.

And, I would have waited for warmer temperatures if the weather forecast and my schedule permitted it.

But the end of the week and the weekend are jam-packed with stories, so today it was.

Some things don't change, however, I didn't wear a hat so I'm still covered in lawn and tree pieces.

But snakes will live to see another day.
